If I Were a Mermaid...

My Mermaid Look

Picture

Gotta admit that I am not this archetype (a Mermaid I'm not).

I know you can tell it's not very hygge. Enjoying being in your own little world is very hygge. Structured and possibly stiff-feeling clothes are not.

But I do love the idea of mermaid skirts & if I were going to try a Mermaid outfit, I would certainly include one.

I am cheating by using knit tops, too, and wearing the brown, but I love the outfits I came up with, so the cheating worked!

Silk and satin would have been better choices, but I much prefer knitwear. It's all I ever wear!

Would you wear outfits like this? Let me know in a comment.

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

As I said yesterday, I don't get this. This is more what I think when you mention mermaids (besides that terrible movie).

Hi, Roy! So I understand your question, I think. But since I didn't create this system, I am not completely sure how to answer the way Kati probably would. I do love it, though, and I'll try.

Kati's idea has been to take a fantasy type & make it practical for those who identify with it or like that type. For example, people who dress up like mermaids for Halloween might wear a shell-type bra top and maybe footie pants made to look like a mermaid's tail.

But no one would wear that to work or in their everyday lives. So this is an interpretation of what an everyday mermaid might wear. And my particular mermaid idea is not quite right, as I said.

OTOH, you have probably heard of mermaid skirts? You can see why that would be appropriate for an everyday mermaid, right? Or maybe colors of the sea? I hope you see what I mean.

I would probably not wear this. These tighter types of skirts never felt right on me. I am short 5'2'' and feel like a skirt length that is long enough just makes my legs look far too short. The second one might work but I think I'd be a bit too constricted. I never wear skirts anymore. I like the look, but it's just too much to worry about being ladylike and all!

I know exactly what you mean, Jill! I hate anything that's fussy or that I'm going to have to worry about or manage while I'm wearing it. These outfits are my ideas of what I might wear to an occasion that seems a little dressy. Other than that, I don't wear dresses or skirts very often, either.

Jeanine, what lovely outfits. For someone else :-). I used to look great in mermaid skirts, but now I think pencil skirts to the knee are better, if I'm in a skirt at all. I looked at the link you shared for Roy and remembered those skirts right away. Thanks for another fun look at modern mermaids!

Thanks, Kebba! I know what you mean. I used to have a mermaid skirt years ago but who knows how it would look if I tried it now. I love the idea of it, though. And skirts to the knee like that pic on the right are probably more my style, too. In fact, I wore something similar a few months ago, but in different colors.
